What You Should Know About: The New Intracoastal Canal Bridge

Just in time for the summer travel season, the new bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway is now open, helping improve traffic flow and reduce congestion along one of the primary routes to Alabama's Beaches.

The original Beach Express bridge now serves northbound traffic leaving the island, while southbound travelers on the Beach Express are routed directly onto the new bridge. The new route connects to Canal Road via a roundabout just west of The Wharf, creating a more efficient path into Gulf Shores and Orange Beach.

As our destination continues to grow, infrastructure improvements like these help ensure guests spend less time in traffic and more time enjoying their vacation. The additional bridge capacity comes at an ideal time, as summer visitors begin arriving on the Alabama Gulf Coast, and is expected to help ease congestion during peak travel periods for both residents and visitors.
