What You Should Know About: Cleaning and Linens

Cleaning a vacation rental is no small task, even when we are not in the middle of a global pandemic. Housekeepers are expected to properly prepare and sanitize a property from departing guests and completely reset it to create a like-new experience for arriving guests, under some pretty tight time constraints. As we now find ourselves in a new era, it is important that we are doing what we can to ensure the health and safety of the arriving guests while being as efficient as possible.

When our beaches reopened May 1st, we implemented phase one of our new cleaning protocol, which was a cleaning program consistent with CDC guidelines, with the focus on enhanced surface cleaning with EPA approved disinfectants and the proper contact or dwell time in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

We have begun phase two of our cleaning initiative by implementing a Triple Sheeting process. Triple sheeting is a style of bed making that uses multiple layers of sheets and blankets. It is an easy system to manage for both housekeeping and laundry. Three sheets and a blanket or throw are used to create the look, which can all be changed and easily laundered with bleach after each guest. When we move your unit to Triple Sheeting all bed dressings, shams, and decorative pillows on beds and couches will be removed, bagged, and brought to our office. At that time Kathy will contact you to see if you wish to donate your items or if you would like us to store them until your next visit when you can pick them up.

We realize change is hard. For the properties that have already implemented Triple Sheeting, the response has been overwhelmingly positive. “Coronavirus has changed everyone’s lives. We are all having to adjust everyday life to this new normal. We are so glad iTrip is working hard to stay ahead of the curve on this situation. These costs seem reasonable and well worth the added safety of cleanliness. Decorations, of course, will have to come second. We can always decorate our walls.
